Sally Graham, founder of the Avant Homecare service, has been nominated for the Great British Care Awards for her outstanding contribution to social care.
Sally says: “I am delighted, on behalf of all the people we care for, the professional care teams who provide our care service, and the care managers and franchisees who deliver our services through our nine Avant offices.”
Care is in Sally’s blood: she grew up in the care home owned and managed by her parents, and later, with her father, launched and ran a domiciliary care service. Sally went on to build her own multi-million turnover before selling it to found Avant. Since then she has trained and developed a highly successful team and grown Avant into an award-winning multi-location care service.
“I saw as a child the enormous rewards that well-managed care and support can bring to the people who receive it and to the care workers, care managers and business owners who deliver it. My passion for quality care delivery is built on the understanding that everyone involved must be treated with respect and dignity, and I know that this passion is passed on through our local care teams.”
Avant Homecare offers services including elder care, childcare, live-in care, help with rehabilitation and after strokes, and specialist care for a range of conditions. Its carers will prepare full meals or snacks, go shopping and even take the dog for a walk, while providing a regular visit from a friendly face and keeping an eye on physical and mental health.
Sally also highlights the need for diversity in the care sector, saying: “Our inclusive recruitment policies mean that our franchisees and staff reflect the communities that we work in.”
She has championed the need for fair pay for all care and support staff for over 20 years, long before the pandemic ‘clap for carers’ days, and Avant carers are paid above minimum wage and offered extensive training to help them climb the career ladder.
“I know my local carers share my commitment to providing a quality care and support service to allow people to stay safe, securely and with dignity, in their own home or choice of residence,” say Sally. “My nomination is for the whole Avant team, and all the people we care for.”
